Island Update

The Island team are spread throughout the World. Los Angeles co-producer Steph Meurer is busy conferencing our new North American reps Traction Media (HALF NELSON, HARD CANDY) whilst Amy travels to Mipcom in Cannes to discuss future slates and Elizabeth works from Istanbul after a month long documentary producing job throughout Europe. Brek and Clare are keeping the home fires burning, working with Faith at Soda for a cover image for the French edition of the novel and putting the finishing touches to the website! Meanwhile, a cast and crew screening is finally being planned for early November.

Film Characters I Play Could Shock Fans Of Merlin, Admits Colin

HE’S best known for playing the clean-cut kid of Camelot but Colin Morgan has two roles up his wizard’s sleeve that will shock fans of BBC drama Merlin.

The Northern Irish actor, who stars as the young magician in the fantasy ‘prequel’ series, plays a drug addict and an autistic teen in his first major parts since shooting to fame.

Saturday Plus met the Ulster man on a visit to the eye-popping medieval Pierrefonds Castle in Picardy in France, used to represent Camelot in the series.

Dressed in period costume and sitting outside the banqueting hall, Colin looks every inch the Saturday night hero idolised by millions of kids.

But he admits the gritty, low-budget roles might shock some of his loyal fanbase.

Sea Change Update

Autumn was spent prepping for ‘Mull – The Return’ which turned out to be a joyous if hectic affair with an almost entirely new crew decamping to the Isle of Mull Hotel. Shooting days were undeniably long (and during the horrendous November storms), and were spent all over the island, from Dervaig and Calgary Bay to Uishkin and Pennyghael. However, it was comforting to know that a swimming pool, steam and sauna were waiting for us upon our return (as well as a well stocked single malt bar).

Despite a collision with a stag at 30 mph (the car came off much much worse don’t worry) and the odd missed ferry, we stuck to the schedule and were thrilled at the performances from Natalie and Colin, who were faced with the challenge of having to reacquaint themselves with the characters of Nikki and Calum a full year later.
